I once had a friend and colleague who challenged a group of us to read 20 books in 2000. I didn’t make it. I also did. For 2013 I’ve decided to challenge myself to read 13 books. I’m not sure of all the titles, but I have a few to start:

  1. Giant in the Shadows, The Life of Robert T. Lincoln—kind of cheating on this one, as I have about 100 pages left until it is finished—by Jason Emerson
  2. The Traveler’s Gift by Andy Andrews
  3. Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burroughs
  4. The Day Lincoln Was Shot by Jim Bishop—I’ve read that one before, but it’s been years and given my blog entry Real History v. Bill O’Reilly, I feel a need to read an accurate account.

That’s it for now. In 2000 I made a whole list and felt like I could not deviate from it. Books that might make the list include: Delivered From Evil, the Saga of World War II; a biography on Chester Arthur; The President’s Club; Polk (partially read) and Lincoln by David Herbert Donald.
